(VERB) A PLAY ON WORDS
(verb) a play on words
Written by Seth Freeman
Directed by Ansley Valentine
With Josh Decker, Liv Jonson, Aidan Prather, Brian Alexander Davis, Zilia Balkansky-Sellés, Mikaylah Taylor, Kent Phillips
A single “offensive” word, displayed in a public place, roils a community, and the court case that follows sparks strong feelings about language, law, sex, ethics, and the myriad complications that words, in a variety of contexts, can create in our lives.
“Compelling acting by the ensemble!”
“What a great idea on the part of director Ansley Valentine to stage this play and live-stream it for PlayZoomers. This way, we, the audience members, could see the whole stage at once and enjoy the many close-ups too.”
“I’m struck by how relevant this is, given recent events!”
“Kudos to playwright Seth Freeman. The references to the current year resonated, yet the play addresses a long-standing principle of First Amendment rights, i.e., the community standard. I loved how you included all the First Amendment principles.”
